Pura Vida!

Good afternoon everyone! Hope all is going well!  Costa Rica is good! I'm in an area called EscazĂș and it's a really cool area! It's almost cold! Finding people is a bit harder and all of our friends live uphill so lots of faith! Last pday we played soccer again on the turf field here in the park, we had almost the whole zone there and had a lot of fun. We had arepas for lunch and they were so good!  Unfortunately both of our baptismal dates fell through! One is because he wants to inject himself with steroids and the other wants her less active husband to baptise her but that's probably for the best!  We keep getting sent on mini quests throughout the week. Kinda fun! But lots of good food this week! Pupusas for dinner that night! Sorry this email is going to be all over the place because I am just remembering things as I'm writing! We found out we get to be part of the welcome group for the new president! So we will be some of the firs...

Costa Rica Week...

Hey everyone! I hope all is going well and that you are all keeping the commandments! Just a quick update on everything here in Costa Rica, we have a few baptismal dates that we are super excited about this next sunday!! One will probably fall through because he wants to be a bodybuilder and inject himself with steroids so he can't really keep the word of wisdom. The other is the wife of a less active member and has a daughter that got baptised a few months ago. The first visit we had with her she told us that the other elders had never asked her to be baptized so she never did, so we asked her if she wanted to and she said yes!  Also the new mission president is coming on the 28th! I don't know how to feel because we don't really know what's going on or what's going to happen. Hopefully I will have more info next week for you all!  Last pday we went to the turf field that is in the park and played soccer with al...

We Got Free Ties

How is everyone doing this beautiful day? All is good here in Costa Rica! The area here is a bit different than my last one. Not many people are open to our message, so it's tricky to have lessons, so we are finding quite a bit! It's alright, though, because it's not blazing hot, just lots of rain. I forgot my umbrella in an Uber, so I've gotten a soaked a few times. Last pday was fun, we helped president and sister Cates pack up some of the stuff in their house because their leaving in 2 weeks! While we were putting stuff away, we found a bunch of ties. We asked sister Cates what she wanted to do with them, and she told us to take one each and hand out the rest to the elderes that didn't get one on christmas. Then after we got almost the entire zone in the central park and played soccer with some kids that were playing there.  This week has been busy! During all of the exchanges, we had to plan all of the travels for the entire mission so everyone gets where they n...

Analogy Of The Sting

Satan doesn't always work with temptation all at once, trying to get us with a home run swing. It's lots of little things that eventually get us tied down. He makes us think that one little sin is ok and that we can just repent and nothing bad will happen. But that's how he wears us down to except more and more of these sins until it's too late. It's like him putting a needle and string through just the tippy top layer of our skin, you can barely feel it but it's still there. And everyone of those "little sins" are each time that he wraps that string around and around and around until we can't brake it and it cuts off the blood flow.

It Started With A Phone Call

How is everyone doing this fine day? I apologize for not writing an email last week. We got super busy. But things have been shaken up! I am no longer in Filidelfia, I escaped the heat for now. 2 Mondays ago in Filidelfia, my companions and I were getting our hair cut when we got a call from President. He said he needed to talk to me, so I walked outside to talk. He started by asking me how everything was in Filidelfia, I said,' All was super good, but I'd had a lot of time there.' He says,' Yes, that's very true." I jokingly ask him if the call is to tell me I'm leaving to be a secretary. He pauses and answers," Yes, Elder Kirby, that's exactly why I'm calling you. Can you leave tomorrow?"  Anyways now I'm an office secretary in San Jose. I've got quite a bit more responsibilities, but it's quite fun to see people come in and see everyone. And the apartment is huge so that is nice too. I'm over all the technology things. T...
