Training

Image
Good afternoon everyone! Hope all is well. Things are going good here in Costa Rica! Lots of rain still but now there's wind so it gets a bit chilly! Transfers came around the other week and here I am smack dab in the middle of San Jose training a Greenie the ways of the Tico. Elder Gardner is from AZ and is a funny guy, but we still work hard. We are whitewashing Don Bosco and it's quite the area, so many people and so many hobos, but it keeps it quite interesting. We somehow fit 6 suitcases into a tiny little Honda. We had stake conference on Sunday, there's a lot of great members here in Don Bosco, I'm excited to get to know them all. Not a ton to report on for now! Just trying to get to know all of the area and all of the people!  Elder  Kirby Photos

The Days Are Slow But The Weeks Are Fast

How's everyone doing? This week's been pretty good. There's not a ton to report on. Spanish is still coming along still, bit by bit. It's hard understanding native people but gringo's is a lot easier.  Last pday we trained legs in Andres's gym, and I was sore for three days after. Being sore and walking everywhere all the time is not a great combo.  Got some new people in the district though. They're all pretty cool and we all get along. We had exchanges and I got to lead the new Elder all around our area for 24 hours. Elder Reynolds is a cool guy. He's been here for over a year and we got along well.  The work has been off and on lately. We either have days that we have a lot of new contacts and really good lessons, then the next day no one answers their phones or doors.  Had the wildest Uber driver the other day though. Picked us up and was blasting music and just kept it on full blast the whole drive. Drove 20 over the speed limit and drove with his s...

Ya Me Voy De La Oficina

How's everyone doing? Yep, another weekly email. It's been a pretty normal week this week, not a ton super exciting. These last two pdays, it has rained all day. Kinda kills the plans of playing sports outside but it's OK. I'm leaving the office on Wednesday! I'll be in the heart of san Jose and will be partying in La Carpio while training a greenie!  Pura Vida,       Elder  Kirby   Photos

No Elder, That's Not Going To Fit In Your Suitcase

Image
Well, let's start this with last pday and talk 'bout the subject of the email. Last pday we went to TurrĂșcares again. If you remember Andres from last week's email, we went and learned some Krav Maga from him and lifted some weights at his gym/house. We're not supposed to lift in commercial gyms, but it's part of Andres's house, so it's a loophole, but we've missed lifting. We can't lift heavy either, so we made a personal rule that it has to be sets of 10, so we are lifting light but still getting a workout. The subject of the email was part of the conversation I had with Elder Scott while we were looking at machetes. Because they don't use a lot of motorized tools because they don't have a lot of money so they have machetes that are specifically designed to chop grass and bigger ones for trees. They range from 10-32 inches in length. The first one I grab was the 32" one and look over at Elder Scott, and he says,"No Elder, that...

Yup, Another Weekly Email

Image
Pday is here already. Last Pday was a drag. All of our district was out doing other things, so we sat in the apartment all day and called family because we don't have keys to the steak center to use the computers to write emails. But having a bit longer to talk to my family was really nice.  Im a missionary for Halloween this year, but we didn't get any candy :(  One of the recent converts in our area is named Andres. I met him for the first time on Tuesday when we went to TurrĂșcares. First impressions are definitely a thing. We met him and the President of Areas (their best buds, and hes the reason, andres got baptized) at a restaurant. The President of Areas was wearing normal shorts, a T-shirt and tennis shoes. And clean shaven. But Andres is chilling there with a man bun, long beard, tanktop, and floral short shorts and slides. Looking a bit fruity. But he's absolutely ripped. We sit down, get some Cokes, and just talk with him. Turns out he teaches Krav Maga. Which app...

Another Weekly Email

How is everyone doing? This will be a super quick email, this week has passed by super quick! Last pday we decided to try to play multiple sports at the same time, soccer, football, basketball, and frisbee. Quite the interesting combo. Then on Tuesday we had ML, it went well and we had a few disagreements but it was fun to watch. Then that night we got homemade pizza from a member and strawberry shakes! Then we had exchanges with the zone leaders! I went to Hatillo with elder scott again! Halloween was pretty normal, nothing different. Crazy that it's already november! Almost Christmas time!   Love you all, have a great week!   Elder  Kirby   Photos:
