La Cruz

Good morning everyone!

I'm back in Guanacaste! I love this area; the people are really friendly, and the views are always incredible. It's hot here, but the ocean breeze keeps things cool.

Last Monday, we did some shopping and packed up my suitcases. We were surprised to find Prime in the supermarket! We said goodbye to Juan, Sandra, Josue, Oscar, and Candy.

On Tuesday, we had my last district council in San Jose and enjoyed Venezuelan food for lunch. Elder Kingsford joined us for the day. We also stopped by Hermano Guillermo's; he worked his chiropractic magic, and my back was popping like popcorn in the microwave! I felt like a new person afterward.

The next day was a long bus ride, but luckily it wasn't crowded. We all spread out and had our own row, which was much more comfortable.

My first day here in La Cruz was fantastic. The views and the sunsets are absolutely beautiful. On Tuesday, it took two and a half hours to get to and from district council. We ate Taco Bell and then headed back for an adventure.

A sister from the group had given us a grill but wanted it back, so we walked 30 minutes to return it. As we left, we joked that it would be funny if it started pouring rain. And it did! Then, when we were five minutes from her house, we joked that it would be funny if she texted and said she'd just pick it up after church on Sunday. And she did! We got soaked, but it was probably quite a sight: two "gringos" walking down a remote road in the pouring rain, carrying a grill!

Later, we heard someone playing Beatles music and decided to contact him. His name is Freddy, and he loves that type of music. He expressed interest in church and shares many of our beliefs.

My first Sunday here was interesting. The La Cruz group is small, so we filled almost every role in the church meeting. We planned the meeting, gave talks, administered the sacrament, and taught the second-hour class. It'll be like that almost every Sunday.

But I love it here; everything is very "pura vida."

Best regards,
Elder Kirby
