Another Temple Trip

Good morning everyone,

I hope you all had a great time at your Super Bowl parties. I'll keep this email brief.

We had a fantastic week. We changed our P-day to Wednesday so we could attend the temple and perform baptisms with Natasha. We baptized and confirmed her father, who passed away about three months ago, and her grandfather. It was a powerful experience, and the small font was filled with the Spirit.

We had zone council and then began exchanges with the zone leaders, who are training as a trio. I went to Hatillo with Elders Threlfall and Pope. We had a wonderful time and found many incredible people. We intended to follow up with a sister about how church went on Sunday, but we ended up having a deep conversation. We gave her the Restoration pamphlet, and she told us that the night before, she had a dream where the only thing she saw was the picture of Jesus on the front of the pamphlet. We stayed up talking about all sorts of things and delved into a lot of doctrine.

While contacting on Saturday, we met a woman. It was one of the strangest experiences I've had contacting. We knocked on the door, and she didn't even ask who it was. She just stared us dead in the eyes and said, "He says you are people I can trust, come in," in the most monotone, robotic tone I've ever heard. So, of course, we went in. She didn't change her expression the entire time we were there, still staring us in the eyes, and she hardly blinked. She proceeded to take out some papers that she said God had been revealing scriptures to her. It was just random spiritual words on paper, but she was completely serious. Every sentence she said started with something similar to "He says that" or "The Spirit is telling me that." We decided to go, but she wouldn't stop talking, so we asked if we could leave with a prayer. She wanted to offer it, so we agreed. It was probably the most satanic chant I've ever heard.

On a positive note, church attendance is going very well here. Eight of our friends came to church, and nine of the recent converts attended. It's the fourth or fifth week in a row with those kinds of numbers. Member attendance has also gone up quite a bit. We went from thinking we were a branch to having all the benches filled. It's amazing to see the progress, help out the ward, and gather Israel.

On a different note, we had the transfer meeting last night! I'm going back to Guanacaste, to the area of La Cruz, with Elder Foxx. I'm excited to be back in the same district I was in almost a year ago and to do exchanges in my old area of Filadelfia! We will be in a group, so we'll see how church goes.

Take care,
Elder Kirby
