My Comp Is Dying (Not Literally)
Well, good morning to everyone, I hope all is going well! Yes, my companion has finished his companion (we call it dying) he's packing up now, and I will find out who my new comp is tomorrow! We will see what happens. I'm pretty sure I'll stay here in Filidelfia for at least another transfer. People keep telling me that I will train this transfer, but I don't think it will happen. But we will see tomorrow! We were on companion exchanges on Tuesday, and I was leading the area with our district leader, Elder Preston. We contacted one of our friends and had a really good lesson with her and her daughter! ( they went to church on Sunday), but as we were leaving, we went to shake their hands, and the mom hands me $20 and would not take it back no matter what we told her. She said it's because it's so dang hot here and not for our lesson. So Elder Preston and I got smoothies and Gatorade and paid for the bus back home with the money. We will stop by and clean her yard or something to say thanks! I learned a lot from Elder Preston about missionary work, and he's given me a new perspective about everything. While we were walking past some bumper to bumper traffic, I heard a woman yell in English, " Missionarys!" So I looked back and saw a couple waving at us, so we went and talked to them. Turns out their from Pleasant Grove! So if anyone knows the Hunningtons that have a house in Costa Rica, tell them I say hi again!
We have a family that we are teaching that have told us that if they can't find any flaws in the Book of Mormon, they would become "mormons." The husband is trying his hardest to find the tiniest flaw and is comparing everything to the Bible. So their a lot of fun to teach, and it tries my scriptural knowledge.
One of my favorite members is hermana Liliam. She's about 70 years old and is just chilling with Pit Vipers on while we are teaching and is telling us wild stories from her life. She's so funny and has such a strong testimony.
Another fun story, we are in a lesson with another family, and we were talking about the Holy Ghost and what we believe about him. One of the woman reaches out her hand to my comp and tells him to take it (like a hand shake) So hesitantly, he takes it and she asked him if he feels "the fire of the holy spirit". I was just sitting there trying not to laugh. I wish I got a photo of my comps face. But it was a very, very interesting lesson and they just didn't really understand what we were saying. We will have to go back and explain a bit more simply.
Sunday, we had 8 new friends in church! For us in Filidelfia, that's quadruple what we've ever had! So that was super exciting, and we are hoping they all liked it!!
Spiritual thought
If I ever need to share a scripture at the last minute or something, I always use Matthew 10: 17-22. This is the story of the rich teen who asks Jesus what he needs to do to obtain eternal life. Read verse 21! It ways that first He loved the teen. I love that part. God will always love us no matter what we do. He will always be there with open arms. He asks us to sacrifice small things to obtain much larger things. The teen was to sacrifice his money but in exchange for having eternal life.
Love you all lots,
- E. Kirby
