We Got Robbed

How is everyone doing this fine Monday? Well, as you can tell by the subject of this email, this week has been a bit more interesting than last week. So let's get right into it! This week, we had companion exchanges. I went up to San Roque with Elder Poulsen. He's from Atlanta, and we talked about cars almost the whole time. We had a lot of really good lessons and Elder Poulsen and I worked really well together. When we got back to the house, there was a dead rat on top of the washing machine. Quite the surprise. The next morning, we went to a member's house and helped them move some concrete slabs that were on the side of his house so that he could paint. We helped paint a bit and it was a lot of fun. The member was playing 80's rock over his TV, so it was fun to jam out while we worked.
As for the subject of this email, our house got robbed the other day while we were asleep. Before, our window didn't close all the way. So the robber climbed up to our apartment, which is on the 2nd floor, came in through the window. There were footprints on the chair that was closest to the window and everything. Nothing really got stolen. Just some spare change that was on our desks.  Maybe $5-$10 in total. The robber opened the door to the bedroom and everything. I guess we didn't hear a thing. We called President Cates in the morning when we put the pieces together. He said that it has happened in the past in a different area. It's usually a poorer person who doesn't want to hurt anyone and just wants to eat. Luckily, we had one of those people rob us. We did put some sticks in the track of the window so that it doesn't open anymore.

As for the work, we've honestly had a really good week. There were 70 people in our tiny branch. 13 were tourists. We've found 30 people this week (no one went to church) and have a few friends we are going to put baptism dates for! After church yesterday, we went to one of our friends' houses that lives 45 minutes away. 15 in bus and 30 minutes walking. They do not have running water to their house, so we took some jugs 15 minutes to a river that was by their house to fill up the jugs and bring them back to the house so they could wash their clothes. While my companion and I were waiting for the juggs to fill up, we found some random trees and built a super solid bridge across the river. My companion is one of the most serious people I've ever met, and to see him laughing and having fun was good to see. It was really fun to help our friends out.

I'm not going to type out the spiritual thought today because I want you all to go out and read it and have your own spiritual experience! But I invite you all to read Moroni 7!

Lots of love,
     Elder Kirby
